Are you playing the long, or the short game? Do you know your why? What are you willing to sacrifice to get there?
I believe that patience is the key difference between us reaching our goals or not. In this world of instant gratification, it’s easy to get sucked into the short game, to take shortcuts. Sure, it feels good for a while, but ultimately it hurts us in the long run.
Personally, I hate the feeling of regret after a taking shortcut, and 99% of the time I’m worse off than where I started. Every time I am tempted to take a shortcut, I remind myself of the following, “There is no substitute for hard work”.
I believe the following – macro patience with micro speed is the simple formula to achieving goals. In other words, there needs to be urgency, you need to take intentional action now, and every that follows. But at the same time, you need to deploy patience, you need to trust the process, and you need to trust that what you’re doing will bear fruit.
I’ll ask this question again – do you know your why?
I dream of living in a world absent from preventable chronic diseases. I wake up every day to bring this dream to life. As a fitness professional I help people lose weight, make better food choices, form good habits, and live a healthier lifestyle. This, I believe, will help prevent chronic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Knowing my why really simplifies my life. Before I make a decision, I simply ask myself, “Will this get me closer to my goal?” Thereafter, I need to have the discipline to say no to anything that doesn’t aid me in attaining my goal, no matter how tempting it may be.
More importantly, this breeds patience. My commitment to myself is to take one actionable step, every single day, that gets me closer to making my dream a reality.
The long game is really simple. The intentional action you take every day, compounded over days, weeks, months and years, will undoubtedly bear fruit.
Know your why, take action, and deploy patience.
